Former India cricket and commentator Arun Lal is undergoing recovery in a Kolkata hospital after a surgery for jaw cancer.

What is begin called a “rare and dangerous” cancer and whose symptoms were detected in January, Lal has undergone rigorous treatment and would need “two more months” to heal.

“Thank God, I have been able to hold my place,” Lal was quoted by The Hindu.

He was out of the commentary box as well and “close friends called him” including Yuvraj Singh.

“I know what it feels like because I have been through this. It’s nice if you can share someone’s pain and help him overcome it. I always try to understand the mindset of the patient because it mentally defeats you,” Yuvraj said.

Arun Lal played for seven years for India and played Ranji Trophy for Delhi and Bengal.
