Afghanistan vs West Indies 1st ODI: Highlights

Highlights

    21:20 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    WI win by 7 wickets

FOUR! Nicholas Pooran with the winning runs and it all over in Lucknow! At the end it was a stroll in the park for the West Indies. Hope remains unbeaten on 77. Roston Chase with the top score of 94. Chase comes under the bracket of very technically sound batsmen. Unlike typical West Indian batsman. If he continues polishing his skills, he will go a long way. Windies go 1-0 up in the series.

    21:09 (IST)06 Nov 2019
AFG get a breakthrough at last

Bowled! Roston Chase falls for 94. Goes for the slog and misses it and the sound of timber means he has to walk back. Probably went too hard at it and Mujeeb gets his man.  WI- 189/3 in 44 ovs

    21:02 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Edged and dropped!

This is so poor from the Afghans! Hint of spin away from a length and Chase follows the path of the delivery, only to send a fine edge to the keeper who spills it onto the ground wide of slip. Windies are edging towards a win.

    20:42 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Back to back 4's

Roston Chase is unleashing his power against Rashid Khan with back to back boundaries. The first one is of the outside edge and the next is a googly which is picked up well and tucked it away past the short fine fielder. This game is now WI's to loose. WI- 154/2

    20:37 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Break in play

    West Indies- 139/2 (34.2)

Run Rate: (Current: 4.04) WI need 56 runs in 94 balls at 3.57 rpo.

    Shai Hope- 59* (109) 4x4, 0x6

    Roston Chase- 63 (79) 6x4, 0x6

    Rashid Khan- (7.2-0-22-0)*

    Mohammad Nabi- (8-0-33-0)

    20:37 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    STAT ATTACK

This is just the second time that Shai Hope and Roston Chase have both posted 50s in the same ODI. Remarkably, they lost the last one! (vs Bangladesh in Dublin 2019).

    20:25 (IST)06 Nov 2019
2nd ODI fifty for Roston Chase

After his teammate reaches the milestone, it's time for Chase to bring up his half-century. Shai Hope and Roston Chase both score fifties and bring up their 100-run partnership as West Indies cruise towards their target They're 130/2; need 65 in 17 overs

    20:17 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Fifty for Shai Hope

Yet another fifty for the West Indies middle-order batsman. He reaches there with a lovely boundary! Picks up the googly early and finds the gap towards deep mid-wicket. The fielder saves it but touches the rope with his foot.  WI- 111/2 after 27 overs

    19:59 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    100 up for WI

We have reached the halfway mark and the 100 has come up for the visitors. WI- 105/2 and need 90 more runs at less than 4 runs per over. This should be a cakewalk from here with Chase and Hope still in the middle.

    19:46 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Javed Ahmadi into the attack

The right-arm off break, was born in a refugee camp in Peshawar is now ready to roll his arm over. 4 runs of his first over and West Indies require another 104 runs with 8 wickets and 168 balls remaining.

    19:32 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Drinks Break

Drinks on field as Shai Hope and Roston Chase get a much-needed break. They continue to cruise along with the scorecard reading 75/2 .  The surface seems to be getting slower and slower but with dew around West Indies are still the favourites.

    19:31 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    STAT ATTACK

Two of the last six first innings scores of 180-200 in ODIs played in India have been successfully defended. Afghanistan will surely know of this fact as they defend 195.

    19:29 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    WI rebuild
    19:11 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Run-out opportunity

Rashid Khan bowls to Shai Hope who flicks it towards fine-leg and goes for a run and is sent back. The fielder failed to collect it at one go and that allows Hope a reprieve. There was surely a run-out opportunity there. WI- 47/2

    18:56 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Caught

Naveen-ul-Haq gets his man! Well pitched in that corridor of uncertainty. Hetmyer failed to combat the swing on offer, the outside edge was found and Ikram Ali Khil wouldn't drop that. Hetmyer c Ikram Ali Khil b Naveen-ul-Haq 3(11). Windies lose two.  WI- 29/2

    18:55 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Lbw!!

Mujeeb strikes with the new-ball and how many times have seen that? It was the carrom ball which gets the better of Lewis - pitching on good length and spins back into the batsman who played down the wrong line and paid the ultimate price. What a start here for the Afghans!!!

    18:54 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Back LIVE

Shai Hope and Lewis are at the crease. Shai Hope is on strike. Mujeeb will open the attack. Let's Play

    17:37 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Afghanistan all out

That's a bit of a disastrous finish for Afghanistan. When Ikram Ali and Rahmat Shah had been batting, the score on their minds would have been in the 250-300 range. Asghar Afghan tried to come up with a strong finish but he was always under pressure with wickets tumbling at the other end. Holder, who has been splendid in the field and with the ball today, got Asghar Afghan run out in the 45th over. The Afghan tail folded without much protest after that. Afghanistan finish at 194 after 45.2 overs. West Indies would be happy by how the later half of the innings has gone. 195 to win for them in the second innings.

    17:27 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Maiden wicket for Hayden Walsh

Hayden Walsh gets his first wicket for West Indies. Another Afghan batsman loses his wicket in trying to go for the big shot. Gulbadin Naib is out for 17 off 16 balls. Asghar Afghan is still there, but he is in risk of running out of partners now. And right after, Rashid Khan also goes. Romario Shepherd takes the wicket as the ball takes an edge through to the keeper. Afghanistan now 8 down. More than 6 overs left. Can the tail stay with Asghar Afghan?

    17:13 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    AFG 176/6 after 40 overs

Asghar Afghan is upping the ante. How much can the Afghans add in the last 10 overs that remain? Gulbadin, who can also hit a lusty blow, is giving Asghar Afghan able company. They shall be aiming for a score around the 260-mark.

    16:56 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Nabi falls

Afghanistan lose another wicket as Nabi tries to go big but fails. Holder gets another scalp to his name. Easy catch at third man for Cottrell. Afghanistan are losing wickets in a hurry. Naib comes in as Nabi goes out. AFG 160/6 after 36 overs

    16:44 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Rahmat Shah out

Rahmat Shah falls for 61. Gives a dolly of a catch to Holder. Roston Chase strikes again for West Indies. Afghanistan have now lost both their set batsmen. Roston Chase has taken 2 of the 5 wickets to have fallen, and also accounted for a run out. The wheels are coming off this Afghan innings. Asghar Afghan and Mohammad Nabi, two experienced veterans, in the middle to stem the rot. West Indies went to their spinners late on in the innings, but it's spin all the way. AFG 155/5 after 34 overs

    16:29 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    AFG 133/4 after 30 overs

The end of the partnership between Rahmat Shah and Ikram Ali Khil has had an effect on the run rate. Just when the pair looked set to shift up a gear or two, two quick wickets have meant that Rahmat Shah and Asghar Afghan are now giving a lot of respect to the spinners. With the exception of Holder, who have given away just 9 runs in 6 overs, the spinners - Chase and Walsh - have the best economy rates so far.

    16:20 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Two quick wickets

Afghanistan's momentum has been disturbed with two quick wickets in one Roston Chase over. And it started off in the most unfortunate way for Aghanistan. Ikram Ali Khil was run out in a bizarre way. He left his crease to congratulate Rahmat Shah on his 50 before the ball had reached the keeper's gloves. He departs for 58 and he will be disappointed with the manner of that dismissal. Najibullah Zadran offers an easy catch to first slip off the last ball of the over. From 125/2, Afghanistan have been reduced to 126/4.

    15:58 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Afghanistan cross 100

Ikram Ali Khil completes half-century off 47 balls including 6 fours and 1 six as Afghanistan cross 100 runs. This is the 19-year-old's second back-to-back half-century.

    15:40 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Partnership builds

Rahmat Shah and Ikram Ali Khil are putting on a good partnership to help Afghanistan recover from the two early wickets. This pair has already added 70 runs to the board. And the runs are coming in good time too. Ali Khil has a strike rate of 90 at the moment. AFG 86/2 after 20 overs

    15:22 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Afghanistan cross 50

After a slow start, Afghanistan finally cross fifty. After 15 overs, Afghanistan are 53/2. Rahmat Shah 16 (27b), Ikram Ali Khil 21 (29b).

    15:04 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Slow start

It has been a slow start for Afghanistan with the WI bowlers especially Jason Holder keeping them in check. AFG are 37/2 after 12 overs

    14:59 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    10 overs up

Afghanistan lost both the openers in the first power-play, they are 27 for 2 after 10 overs. Cottrell and Holder taking one wicket each.

    14:41 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    WICKET!

WICKET! Afghanistan lose both openers inside six overs as Holder dismisses Javed Ahmadi for 5. AFG are 5-2 after 5.5

    14:39 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    OUT

OUT! Cottrell with the first wicket as he sends Hazratullah Zazai back with a fantastic yorker for 9. Afghanistan are 11/1 after five overs.

    14:24 (IST)06 Nov 2019
    Holder kickstarts with a maiden

Jason Holder continues his trend to start with a maiden as Afghanistan are 2/0 after two overs. Good start by West Indies!

    14:12 (IST)06 Nov 2019
