De Villiers scored his 8000th Test run during the second Test against England in Cape Town. South Africa captain Amla also reached his milestone in the same Test. Both the batsmen batting together with Amla scoring his 24th Test hundred. He also became the South Africa fastest batsman, in 152 innings, to reach the 24-hundred mark bettering Jacques Kallis record of 164.
De Villiers is the second fastest to 8000 Test runs for South Africa after Kallis who took 170 innings to reach the milestone. AB took 172 innings for the same.
For his 7000 runs, Amla took 152 innings, four more than Graeme Smith who is the quickest to reach the mark for South Africa. Kallis and AB are second and third in the list, both with 151 innings.
De Villiers has played 104 Tests so far and scored runs at average of 51.29. He also has 21 centuries and 58 half-centuries. Amla is playing his 90th Test and has an average just a shade less than that of De Villiers at 50.05.
