Australia and New Zealand skippers, Michael Clarke and Brendon McCullum, were the most mentioned players on Facebook as the two teams fought for the ultimate glory at the Melbourne Cricket Ground(MCG).
3.7 million people had 9.3 million interactions on Facebook on the day of the final.
The data obtained on the social-networking site also reveals a number of interesting information on how people on Facebook, since January 1, created a buzz about cricket’s marquee event.
From January 1 to the end of the tournament, 53 million people had more than 700 million interactions about the Cricket World Cup.
