The Olympic silver medallist aggregated a total of 201kg (88kg + 113kg) to stamp her authority in the competition and achieve a Commonwealth Games record in the process. Meanwhile, Bindyarani Devi won the silver medal in the Women’s 55kg category, raising India’s medal tally to 4.
Partially fulfilling the promise he made to himself four years back, young weightlifter Sanket Sargar won a silver medal in men’s 55kg category, putting India on the medal tally at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday. Meanwhile, weightlifter Gururaja Poojary clinched a bronze medal in the men’s 61kg category at the Commonwealth Games, adding to India’s tally.
Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain (70kg) cruised to the quarterfinals of the women’s light middle weight category with an easy 5-0 win against Ariana Nicholson at the Commonwealth Games while the Indian Women’s hockey team defeated Wales 3-1. In a major upset, defending champions India, led by star paddler Manika Batra, crashed out of the women’s table tennis team event after losing to Malaysia 3-2 in the quarterfinals.
