NBA Finals: Oklahoma City Thunder will host Indiana Pacers in Game 7 of the NBA Finals in a few hours and ticket prices to watch the season finale at Oklahoma City’s Paycom Arena are through the roof! According to an article on Sports Illustrated, courtside seating for the Oklahoma City versus Indiana game is selling roughly for $12,000 (approximately Rs 10.3 lakh).
“(For) A lower-level club seat or courtside seating, the price of entry gets as high as that of a car, more or less,” the article noted.
A package of two tickets was selling for $24,300, which includes access to a complimentary buffet and free non-alcoholic beverages.
The cheapest tickets for the game, high up in the “nosebleed” seats are selling for $1,215 (roughly Rs one lakh).
The report noted that fans looking to buy two to four seats in the 200s/club level could have to fork out anywhere from $2,700 (Rs 2.3 lakh approx) to $6,075 (Rs 5.2 lakh approx) per ticket. At least one pairing rose to $16,000 (Rs 13 lakh approx), while a spot in the 100-level ranges from $3,500ish to at least $10,000.
What is the big deal about NBA Final?
The NBA Finals don’t go down to game 7 very often. In fact, this will only be the 20th Game 7 in NBA Finals history.
Western Conference Champions Oklahoma City Thunder will have the upper hand in the final, since history states that from the previous 19 Game 7 battles in the NBA Finals, 15 were won by the home team.
Indiana Pacers are chasing their first NBA title today. Meanwhile, Oklahoma City Thunder do have a title from 1979, but the team was known as the Seattle SuperSonics. In 2008, the team relocated to Oklahoma City and came to be known as the Oklahoma City Thunder.
What is also unique is that today’s winner will become the seventh different champion in the last seven seasons. Los Angeles Lakers won the title in the pandemic “bubble” in 2020; Milwaukee Bucks won in 2021; Golden State Warriors triumphed in 2022, Denver Nuggets prevailed in 2023 while Boston Celtics won last year’s title.
As the Associated Press noted, whoever NBA Commissioner Adam Silver hands over the Larry O’Brien Trophy to today, will become the ninth franchise to win a title in Silver’s 12 seasons leading the league. In comparison, Silver’s predecessor in the NBA chief’s role, David Stern, saw just eight different franchises win championships in his 30 seasons as commissioner.
