Kerala shuttler NG Balasubramannian has been issued with a two-year suspension by the Kerala Badminton Association for a post against the state body. The men’s doubles state champion compared the prize money awarded to the state winners in Karnataka and Kerala.
In a post on Twitter, Balasubramannian posted a collage of two photos showing ‘the support Kerala Badminton gives to their players.’ The first one showed Karnataka State Doubles Champion receiving prize amount of Rs 14000 in comparison to the Kerala State Doubles champion receivoing zero cash prize in the second picture.
According to the Times of India, KBSA had first given a show cause notice to the player on October 16, saying that they never announced a prize for the tournament since it was a selection criteria for the National Championship. Balasubramannian was asked to reply to the notice within 14 days but the federation was not satisfied with his response and decided to take strict action by suspending him for two years.
The suspension debars Balasubramannian from playing at any district, state or national level. “You are placed under suspension from participating in all activities of badminton for a period of 2 years from 4-11-2018 to 3-11-2020. During this period, you are debarred from participating in all registered level tournaments by the district, state or national units,” the KBSA statement read.
