Dhanteras 2018 Laxmi Puja Vidhi, Muhurat, Time, Samagri, Mantra, Rituals: Dhanteras or Dhantrayodashi marks the beginning of Diwali celebrations – one of the most celebrated Hindu festivals. It falls on the thirteenth lunar day of Karthik Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Karthik. This year Dhanteras will be observed on November 5.
On Dhanteras, people offer prayers to Goddess Lakshmi and God of wealth, Lord Kuber. According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the ocean during the churning of the sea, famously known as ‘Samudra Manthan’. There is also a custom of buying silver utensils and gold ornaments on this day.
According to drikpanchang.com, it is advised that the puja rituals should not be performed during Choghadiya Muhurat. However, the best time to perform Lakshmi Puja on Dhanteras is during Pradosh kaal when Sthir lagna prevails. It is believed that if Lakshmi puja is performed during Sthir Lagna, Goddess Lakshmi visits your home to bless it.
This year, Dhanteras Puja Muhurta starts on November 5 from 06:05 pm and will last till 08:01 pm, for a total duration of 1 hour and 55 minutes. The trayodashi tithi is expected to start at 01:24 am on November 5 and it will end at 11:46 pm on the same day. However, pradosh kal starts from 5:29 pm and ends at 8:07 pm and the vrishabha kal starts from 06:05 pm and ends at 08:01 pm, as per information available on drikpanchang.com.
People clean their houses and decorate it before the evening puja. They also make imprints of little feet with rice flour at the entrance of the house. The entrance of the house is decked up with flowers, and colourful rangolis.
