Artistes mourn loss of Keshavrao Bhosale auditorium in Kolhapur

(File Photo) Since late Thursday evening, when fire destroyed the 109-year-old Keshavrao Bhosale auditorium, theatre artists have been in a state of shock. They are trying to still come to terms with the loss of one of the most historically and culturally significant auditoriums of the state.

Dr Sharad Navare, a social activist and theatre enthusiast living in Kolhapur for the last 50 years says when he arrived in the city in the 1970s, it was the only auditorium in Kolhapur. Navare, who runs the Haushi Natya Kala Kendra, said, “It is heartbreaking for like four to five generations of our theatre group. Our artistes were in shock when they heard it. Some arrived at the auditorium and sat through the night.”
