Defending the induction of Babu Singh Kushwaha, the tainted ex-minister of the BSP,in the party,BJP leader Yashwant Sinha called him a “whistleblower” who had exposed the irregularities in the Mayawati government.
“Kushwahaji has come to the party as a whistleblower,” he told reporters, apparently expecting more disclosures by Kushwaha against the BSP government in Uttar Pradesh.
Sinha said this when his reaction was sought on the induction of Kushwaha in BJP after he was dropped by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati from her cabinet recently.
Asserting that it was not a hasty step, the BJP remained firm on the decision to induct Kushwaha into the party fold, indicating that it was a move aimed at playing the OBC card in the state. (Watch video)
One can definitely not call the decision to induct Babu Singh Kushwaha hasty, BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters in New Delhi even as protests within the party refused to die down with Aonla MP Maneka Gandhi joining the chorus against Kushwahas induction. Kushwaha represents a very backward class community. He has come into the party and we have welcomed him… SP,BSP and Congress are not serving the Most Backward Castes. They are engaged in minority appeasement while OBCs feel their rights are being taken away.
However,Sitharaman said his induction into BJP is no immunity to him from the law. We have not said we will be giving him cover. Law will take its course, she added.
