A day after Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda trashed the BJP allegations on the Robert Vadra land deals, the Haryana BJP said Hooda would be in for a surprise after the results of the Lok Sabha polls are declared on May 16.
The state unit added that the land deals involving Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law will also be a direct issue in the Haryana Assembly elections that follow the Lok Sabha polls. “The present government will have to clarify its position on the Vadra issue. After all it is the state land that was given to Vadra in a conspiratorial way. The Lok Sabha result will spell doom for the Congress,” said the BJP’s Faridabad candidate Krishan Pal Gurjar.
The party is also confident that, along with ally the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC), it will bag all 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
Speaking to The Indian Express, state BJP chief Ram Bilas Sharma said that the report from his cadre across the state and trends have indicated that the Narendra Modi wave has swept Haryana with the alliance set to win in all ten seats. “The Rohtak seat where everybody thought the Congress will because of the chief minister’s son (Deepender Hooda), will spring a surprise.
The Congress might gain a lead in Kiloi, the native Assembly constituency of Hooda and possibly in Meham but in the other seven Assembly segments at Rohtak, the BJP will leave the ruling party behind,” Sharma said. The BJP is also banking on the HJC winning at both seats it contested — Hisar and Sirsa.
The observations, however, are contrary to poll trends that indicate that the HJC will lose at Sirsa while predicting a razor sharp contest at Hisar where HJC chief Kuldeep Bishnoi has taken on the Chautala scion, Dushyant Chautala.
Haryana minister and Congress spokesman Randeep Surjwala ridiculed the BJP’s observations. “They are daydreaming. The Congress will not only win in Rohtak but will do exceedingly well in all other constituencies,” he said.
On Vadra’s impact on the polls, he said: “This was raked up by those who are rattled by the extensive Congress campaign. The people of the state know that there was no wrongdoing. It is a case of clear political vendetta”.
