A Congress delegation on Wednesday met PM Narendra Modi seeking the Centre’s intervention in the Vyapam scam case in Madhya Pradesh.

“Vyapam has become ‘vyapak’ . We met the PM over the Vyapam issue, perhaps the biggest scam in India. This time we furnished solid evidence before him. Before Lok Sabha polls, he claimed that neither he will engage in corruption nor allow anybody to do it… Now we expect the PM to take the matter into his own hands and ensure action. We hope he will stick to what he had said,” former Union Minister
Kapil Sibal said after the delegation, of which he was a part, met Modi.

The delegation also included Congress leaders Digvijaya Singh, Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia. Congress has been demanding the resignation of MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on the issue.

Sibal said they submitted a CD and an excel-sheet to the PM that mentions “CM” against the names of as many as 48 of the 131 illegal appointees. “The hard disk was tampered with earlier and the name of CM was removed and that of Uma Bharti was given so that the probe does not bring under its ambit the CM…We have got the CD tested from an IT lab, which confirms this is the original disk. This has made it clear that the name was later changed in a duplicate disk. Now the PM should take action,” Sibal said.

Digvijaya Singh said Modi’s “credibility will depend on what he does in this matter. “If he does not take action, it means he is also part of the scam,” he said.

In a letter to the PM, Congress has said the excel-sheet was the original one and what has been filed before court is a “tampered version”.
“To our misfortune, the High Court laid its trust on STF constituted by the state, whose control vests with the CM,” it said.
