
Trinamool Congress continues its winning streak in the civic elections in West Bengal, winning a majority of the wards in 50 municipalities of the 91 municipalities that voted on April 25 .
While the TMC will come to power in 50 municipalities, Congress has captured six municipalities, mostly in North Bengal.
Significantly, the Left Front has won in five municipalities, two of them going to the CPM. As of now, five municipalities seem to be headed for hung houses. Ironically, the BJP is yet to capture a civic body.

The TMC captured Kanthi municipality in East Midnapore winning in all 21 wards, indicating a fragmented voting pattern for the opposition parties.
Of the 144 wards in Kolkata Municipal Corporation, TMC has taken an unassailable lead in 85 while the Left Front is leading in 12, BJP in nine and Congress in seven. TMC ‘s mayoral candidate Sovan Chatterjee has won with a margin of 5,500 votes in ward 131 and is heading for his second term in the KMC.
On the flip side, the Mayor candidate of TMC in Siliguri municipal corporation has been defeated. Former TMC general secretary Mukul Roy’s son Subhrangshu Roy won in Kanchrapara municipality.
