Voting for the Assembly elections ended without incident in Jharkhand on Saturday, with major exit polls predicting the formation of a BJP government in the state.
The fifth and final phase of elections in Jharkhand saw a voter turnout of 71.26 per cent on Saturday evening, which meant that the overall turnout for the state rose just over nine percentage points as compared to the 2009 Assembly polls.
In a major achievement for the Election Commission, the polls were was conducted without security forces suffering any casualties. On April 25, the last day the Lok Sabha elections in the state, alleged CPI-Maoist cadres had attacked officials returning after poll duty, killing eight.
Turnout for the whole state stood at 65.99 per cent; it was 56.97 per cent in 2009. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the state had recorded a turnout of 63.83 per cent.
