Now ED knocks at door of Mamata’s trusted aide, emissary for critical Matua vote bank

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday conducted search operations at West Bengal Forest Minister Jyotipriya Mallick’s residence and seven other locations, in connection with a case of alleged corruption in ration distribution. Mallick was earlier the West Bengal food minister.

The ED is investigating Mallick’s links to businessman Bakibur Rahman, who was recently arrested in the case, sources said. The ED also conducted a search at the residence of Mallick’s assistant Amit Dey in Nagerbazar in North 24 Paraganas district.

There are allegations of irregularities in the public distribution system (PDS) and ‘anomalies’ in the distribution of food grains during the lockdown. Mallick was the state food and supplies minister between 2011 and 2021, during which time the alleged scam took place. At present, he is the Minister for the Department of Forest Affairs and Non-Conventional and Renewable Energy.
