Pushpa Kolhi became the first Hindu girl to be inducted into Sindh Police after passing the provincial competitive examinations, PTI reported.
Kolhi has been posted as the Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) in the province, the news agency said quoting Geo News. “Pushpa Kolhi has become the first girl from #Hindu community who has qualified provincial competitive examination through Sindh Public Service Comhuman rights activist Kapil Dev tweeted.
In January this year, Suman Kumari became the first Hindu woman to be appointed as a civil judge in the Muslim-majority country. Suman, who hails from Qambar-Shahdadkot in Sindh province, serves in her native district. Bodani who hails from Sindh’s Shahdadkot area, stood 54th in the merit list for the appointment of civil judge/judicial magistrate.
“I have entered the field of law because I know that in the backward areas of Sindh poor people need a lot of advice and assistance in legal matters,” she had said.
The first judge from the Hindu community was Justice Rana Bhagwandas, who served as the acting chief justice of Pakistan for brief periods between 2005 and 2007.
Last year, Hindu woman Mahesh Kumar Malani became the first non-Muslim to be elected on a general seat in the National Assembly while a Thari woman, Krishna Kumari, was also elected in Pakistan’s Senate elections.
Hindus form the biggest minority community in Pakistan. According to official estimates, 75 lakh Hindus live in Pakistan. However, according to the community, over 90 lakh Hindus are living in the country.
Majority of Pakistan’s Hindu population is settled in Sindh province where they share culture, traditions and language with their Muslim fellows.
