Apropos ‘An India first: Road used as runway’ (IE, May 22), the successful trial of emergency landing of a Mirage 2000 fighter jet on the Yamuna Expressway is commendable. It is said to be an exercise to create an alternative emergency landing. The crucial question is whether situations calling for emergency landings will allow so much time and preparation for the landing of an aircraft on an operational highway. M.C. Joshi, Lucknow
Dangerous Idea
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s idea of using terrorists to eliminate terrorists is in poor taste (‘Kill terrorist with terrorist: Parrikar’s idea’, IE, May 22). Parrikar should remember that such a policy will be akin to creating Frankenstein’s monster, which will backfire. Pakistan’s strategy of using terror against India has boomeranged. As a result, our warring neighbour has to deal with the loss of innumerable lives. Ketan R. Meher, Virar
Those AAP Detests
This refers to ‘Only officers who misuse powers demoralised: Sisodia’ (IE, May 22). It appears that the AAP’s top functionaries have made it a habit to level unsubstantiated accusations against those they detest. The theory seems to be that when muck is thrown, some of it is bound to stick. Not content with making baseless allegations against political adversaries, the AAP has stooped to defaming bureaucrats. CM Arvind Kejriwal made wild allegations, without proof, against the acting chief secretary in public. He was aware that civil service regulations prohibit her from replying. This is moral bankruptcy. V. Chandramohan, Mumbai
