Bihar Health Minister Bindeshwari Prasad Dubey said that efforts would be made to desterilise persons having no children.
According to an official release, he said it was just possible that some “mistake” might have been committed by some individuals in sterilising persons who had no issue during the family planning programme. These persons, Dubey said, would be duly compensated.
Prime Minister Indira Gandhi asserted in the Rajya Sabha that the objective of the Constitution (42nd Amendment) Bill “is the rejuvenation of the nation and the Constitution”. “We are bringing into sharper focus the intentions of the founding fathers. We are re-establishing the harmony between the legislature, the executive and the judiciary as originally provided in the Constitution,’’ she said. “We are removing the cobwebs created by some recent attempts of the judiciary to encroach into politics and legislative spheres. We are reasserting the sovereignty of the people and pointing out that everything else, including the Constitution, is for the people, we are trying to end, once and for all, some needless controversies which stood in the way of quicker progress,” Mrs Gandhi added.
The British-owned tram company in Calcutta, the management of which was taken over by the state government in 1967, has been nationalised. An ordinance was issued by the West Bengal government.

V, director of Air Safety, said that from the maintenance records of Indian Airlines, some of the major components and assemblies of the air frame and engines of the Caravelle that crashed in Bombay on October 12 last, had exceeded their of life. All 89 passengers and six crew members had died in the crash.
