While addressing an event at the Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan in Agartala Tuesday, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha laid stress on making the Public Distribution System (PDS) transparent and on controlling the prices of essential commodities.

Launching the distribution of mustard oil and pre-Puja subsidised ‘gift hamper’ for ration card holders in the state, CM Saha said, “For the last nine years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been giving a new direction to the country. We also want our government to work in a transparent way… We want to ensure that prices of essential commodities do not go beyond the reach of the common people.”

Slamming the erstwhile Left Front government, Saha said, “Our government will not force anything. This is not the erstwhile government that used to create problems. We are not a problem-creator government. We are a solution-provider government. We want to work so that people can remember us. Our slogan is ‘seva hi sangathan’.”

The chief minister said the state will become the gateway of Southeast Asia after the inauguration of the Maitri bridge at Sabroom connecting Chittagong in Bangladesh.

“Many investors are now showing eagerness to open hospitals and medical colleges. We have been laying emphasis on creating a greater scope of employment. The railway line connecting Bangladesh will be inaugurated this year, after which people can reach Kolkata in 7-8 hours. The future of Tripura is very bright,” he said.
