Open to suggestions but 'conspiracy' against govt similar to 'treason': Tripura CM Biplab Deb at press day event He referred to the media in Dubai and said they were never involved in any conspiracy against the government.

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Friday said he was open to suggestions and opinions on the performance of his 8-month-old BJP-IPFT government but added that any “conspiracy” against his government would be considered equal to “treason”. While attending an event on the occasion of National Press Day at Agartala Press Club here, Deb stressed on positive reporting.

He referred to the media in Dubai and said they were never involved in any conspiracy against the government. “We learn every day from the people of Tripura. If there is any mistake, you are most welcome to criticize it and also give suggestions for better performance. But if someone is involved in conspiracy against the government, they are standing against the country. It will be considered similar to treason”, Deb said.

The chief minister also said that news-based media works as ‘mirror’ of the society. So journalists should perform their professional duty by avoiding stain of any kind, he said.

“We watch ourselves in the mirror every day. Media is the mirror (of society). If a stone hits the mirror, it will break into pieces. So media should play their role in such a way that that is devoid of stain,” he said.

Earlier in May this year, Deb had said that those who would try to dig their nails at his government would have their nails chopped off.
