Tripura: 1 dies after thunderstorm hits Khowai dist, Met dept predicts cloudy sky over state in next 24 hours
According to a letter from a local official to the Teliamura subdivision magistrate (SDM), the incident occurred around 3 pm when the deceased was on her way to her house after collecting firewood from a nearby jungle.

A woman died during a thunderstorm in Tripura’s Khowai district Tuesday. The victim has been identified as Chanda Rani Debbarma of Mangal Chandra Para under Namanjoybari ADC village in Khowai district. The woman lost her life after a tree fell on her.
According to a letter from a local official to the Teliamura subdivision magistrate (SDM), the incident occurred around 3 pm when the deceased was on her way to her house after collecting firewood from a nearby jungle.
“…one woman namely Smt Chanda Rani Debbarma W/O – Sri Ranjit Debbarma of Mangal Chandra Para of Namanjoybari ADC Village died on the spot, as one big tree fell on her head. She was returning to her house after collecting firewood from the jungle. The incident took place at around 3.00 pm,” the letter says.
Meanwhile, the Met department said Belonia, Sabroom, and other parts of South Tripura, North Tripura, and Dhalai districts received substantial rainfall in the last 24 hours, whereas Agartala and a few other areas in West Tripura, Sepahijala, and Gomati districts saw some rainfall activity.
The Met office also predicted generally cloudy sky and thunder-showers in some areas of the state with temperatures ranging between 20 and 28 degree Celsius in the next 24 hours.
