The Tripura Police arrested two people carrying 34 packets of heroin in Bagbassa under the North Tripura district on Sunday.

Both the accused, identified as Sohel Miah and Dilwar Hossain, are residents of the Sepahijala district.

The police said they detained the two after they were found travelling in a vehicle that had no registration number.

“The estimated black market value of the seized heroin is Rs 4 crore. An NDPS case was registered at Bagbassa police station. We arrested both the persons,” Bhanupada Chakraborty, Superintendent of Police (North District), told reporters on Monday.

He added that the arrested persons claimed that they brought the heroin from Silchar in Assam but he suspected that there was a possibility of the contraband item being supplied from Mizoram and Myanmar.
