Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday flagged off the ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Yatra’ from Ambaji to mark the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh, commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
The year-long celebration aims to highlight the contribution of tribal communities to India’s freedom struggle under Birsa Munda’s leadership and to inspire the younger generation toward nation-building, according to a statement.
Under CM Patel’s guidance, the Yatra will be organised from two locations — Ambaji in North Gujarat and Umargam on the Maharashtra border towards South Gujarat — between November 7 and 13. It will traverse various districts, including 14 tribal ones, spreading messages of public awareness and tribal pride.
Reaffirming the state’s commitment to inclusive development, Patel said that the Tribal Pride Rath Yatra will help bring tribal communities to the forefront of Gujarat’s progress and contribute to the goal of Viksit Gujarat, Viksit Bharat. He urged citizens to make the celebration a grand success, reflecting the vision of “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi” given by the PM and the spirit of “Aapno Desh, Aapnu Raaj” inspired by Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
Legislative Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary and Ministers of State P C Baranda, Kamlesh Patel, Pravin Mali and Swaroopji Thakor were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
During the ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Yatra’, villages along the route will welcome the Janjatiya Gaurav Rath (Tribal Pride Chariot) with traditional festivities. At each stop, cultural performances, exhibitions on the life and contributions of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, and information about various Central and State Government schemes will be showcased.
Public service activities such as health check-up camps, Seva Setu programmes and cleanliness drives will also be held along the Yatra route with community participation. In addition, programmes will be organised to help children and youth learn about Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s life and values.
Various departments will conduct painting and elocution competitions, plays, Bhavai performances, lectures, and film screenings highlighting Birsa Munda’s role in India’s freedom struggle and nation-building. Along with 14 tribal districts, events celebrating ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh’ will also be held in 20 non-tribal districts from November 13 to 15.
The national-level celebration will take place at Dediapada in the presence of PM Narendra Modi on November 15.
