Egypt’s cabinet has approved a countrywide state of emergency for three months, it said in a statement on Monday, a day after two church bombings killed at least 44 people.
The state of emergency will take effect from 1 p.m. (1100 GMT), the statement said, but must be approved by parliament within seven days to remain in place. The measure was announced on Sunday in a televised address by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi following the attacks.
