CHANDIGARH, April 1: The Beant Singh assassination trial resumed in the court of UT District and Sessions Judge B.S. Bedi today with one witness being examined in connection with the Paramjit case.
Meanwhile, evidence in the main case could not be held as the entire time was consumed in examining witness Dr R.K. Banta who was posted as senior resident, medical (SRM) at the PGI between 1993 and 1996.
The witness stated that he was on duty in the hospital on August 31, 1995 when he received a call regarding blast at the civil secretariat. He said the caller did not disclose the name and asked them to be ready. Later the bodies recahed the hospital and were examined by other doctors on duty. The witness added that he prepared medico-legal case summaries of about five dead and on being asked, handed them over to the police.
During cross examination, he stated that he prepared the summary of injuries and death on the basis of papers which were sent to him by those doctors who examined the dead at the initial stage. The witness said that he himself did not examine the bodies and hence he cannot say whether records with regard to injuries and deaths were correct or not.
