David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo and Company are under no illusion as to their task for the new Spanish football season: win everything. That was the stark message from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez as the squad headed off for an 18-day tour of Asia today.

With Beckham, a 35-million-euro capture from Manchester United, seemingly the final jewel in the crown, Perez said the team must deliver — meaning that simply retaining the Spanish league title will not suffice. “We have no illusions about our task, which is to win every competition and play spectacular football which entertains our supporters,” said Perez.

Ronaldo ready for Ronaldinho

MADRID: Ronaldo will be looking to ensure he maintains Real’s domestic supremacy at the expense of Barcelona, who have just signed World Cup teammate Ronaldinho from Paris St Germain. “I am really pleased he is coming to play in Spain. He will give the fans a great boost,” Ronaldo said. “This season we are going to enjoy football of the highest quality. He wil be playing for our big rivals and he will therefore be a threat to us. “I hope I will meet up with Ronaldinho on the pitch soon — I will give him a warm welcome,” Ronaldo said. (Agencies)

“We want to win everything,” he told Marca magazine in an uncompromising interview today.

Asked about Beckham’s role in a side already overflowing with top stars, Perez said simply: “He is a great footballer who is coming on board. Make no mistake, Real Madrid only sign the best players in the world. “Beckham is the equal of Zidane, Ronaldo or Figo — but he will greatly help us to consolidate our image.” New Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz said Beckham and Figo must play together, dispelling any doubt that there may not be room for both in the starting eleven.

“I see the team as an orchestra in which great artists play together,” insisted the former Manchester United assistant coach.

Perez said the Beckham transfer had not been the on-off saga it had at times appeared insisting it was the smoothest deal he had pulled off.

“We made an offer, the player was in agreement and it was all done and dusted within hours,” Perez revealed. He added Real was well known to be a buying and not a selling club — but despite that comment Madrid are still set to offload Spanish international striker Fernando Morientes, the forward out in the cold since the arrival of Ronaldo from Inter Milan last year.
