Ending a long suspense,Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddys son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Sunday announced that he would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Kadapa constituency.
I have decided to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Kadapa, which was earlier represented by my father, Jaganmohan, popularly known as Jagan, said at a road show in Proddatur. Kadapa is currently represented by Rajasekhara Reddys younger brother Y S Vivekananda Reddy.
In 2005,Vivekananda had sought to resign from his Lok Sabha membership to enable Jagan make his political debut, but Congress chief Sonia Gandhi had rejected the idea.
Jagan, who launched a Telugu newspaper a year ago and a television channel this year, had announced in a newspaper article last week that he had made up his mind to jump into the electoral battle. However,Congress has not yet officially declared Jagans candidature for the Lok Sabha polls.
Meanwhile, the chief ministers brother-in-law Ravindranath Reddy, who is currently the Mayor of Kadapa Municipal Corporation, has threatened to contest as an independent candidate from the Kadapa assembly segment. Rajasekhara Reddy, however, said it is not possible to field Ravindranath for the Assembly elections.
