Women police personnel put a 10-year-old girl in lockup for several hours when she went to a police station to file a rape complaint against a local in Bulandshahr,UP. It was only after protests that they let go the girl.
Senior Superintendent of Police,Bulandshahr,Gulab Singh on Tuesday admitted the lapse on the part of the police officials on duty at the City Kotwali and said strict action has been taken against them. We have suspended two lady constables who were on duty and two women sub-inspectors have been transferred to police line, he said.
He said the two constables were new to the force and did not have experience to deal with such a sensitive situation. The officials did not do it intentionally,it was their first posting and they are not even a year old into the force. However,we have taken appropriate against all officials, he said.
The incident took place on Monday when the girls mother took her to the police station. The mother complained to the police that one Harinder (35),a father of three, had raped her daughter and dumped her in an unconscious state in a field Sunday night.
But instead of filing a complaint against the accused, the two women constables put the victim behind bars. When her mother tried to explain the incident to the officials, they asked her to leave the police station, locals alleged.
The police officials kept the girl in custody for several hours and freed her only after locals of the area protested against the matter.
On Tuesday,Harinder was arrested from Bulandshahr depot when he was trying to flee the city. We have arrested the accused on charges of rape and further investigation is on, a police officer said.
