A 34-year-old woman arrived at the Erode district collectorate office along with her daughter during the weekly grievance redressal meeting on Monday to appeal for the girls mercy killing. Her 14-year-old daughter Madhumitha suffers from cerebral palsy.
Petitioner A Jaya submitted a plea to Deputy Collector N Gunasekaran stating that she could not remain a mere witness to the sufferings of her daughter. Jaya stated her child is unable to communicate with anyone. Her only mode of expression is crying, she said.
The family had taken Madhumitha to a special school. But they refused to admit her…. We also went to hospitals in Tiruchy,Thanjavur and Erode to try and give her special training. But it was all in vain, Jaya said.
She has to go to work as her husbands income is insufficient to meet the familys needs. Worrying about the girls future, she filed the plea for euthanasia.
