For almost a week,Pratibha Rana shuttled between the Mayur Vihar police station in Delhi to the SSPs office in Muzaffarnagar in search of her father. He was last seen returning from the September 7 mahapanchayat in Kawaal, after which witnesses claim they were ambushed near Jauli village, about 20 km from Muzaffarnagar.
On Friday morning,Pratibha heard that some relatives had found her fathers body in a canal 65 km away in Meerut district. We got no help from the administration… For three days,my relatives scoured the banks of the canal looking for his body, said Pratibha.
We were on our way back from the mahapanchayat on 19 tractor trolleys… Suddenly,we found people shooting at us near Jauli, said Satinder Singh,a relative.
On that day,Pratibha was in Delhi. For two days,I tried to go home, but there was curfew. I went to the Mayur Vihar police station and filed an FIR, she said. Not one official has come to visit us. My father had four sisters, four daughters and one son,all of whom depended on him. Will the government look after all of us? asked Pratibha.
