A senior official of the Ministry of Women and Child Development slashed her wrist in her Shastri Bhawan office Tuesday. She was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where she was discharged after receiving first-aid.
Rugmini Parmar,an economic advisor in the ministry, allegedly slashed her wrist after a meeting with Nita Chowdhury, secretary of the ministry. Parmar, who has already received transfer orders to the Ministry of Agriculture,is awaiting relieving orders.
Chowdhury had recently taken over as secretary of the ministry. According to sources,in the meeting,Parmar was pulled up for a tardy rate of clearance of proposals under the Swadhar scheme in front of other senior officials. Chowdhury asked Parmar why more than 200 Swadhar proposals are still pending, sources said. Disappointed with Parmars response,Chowdhury reportedly threatened to chargesheet her. Parmar was later found bleeding by another official.
Parmar was not available for comments. When contacted, her cellphone was answered by a man who identified himself as Parmar but refused to share his first name. I will not confirm or deny anything. Please ask the office what happened. She is resting at the moment and is not in a position to speak to anybody.
Minister Krishna Tirath did not respond either. Sources said no formal complaint has been lodged yet. It is not possible to say whether she did this because of what happened in the meeting, a senior official said.
