Taking note of the concern voiced by states on low-cost norms impacting the supplementary nutrition programme, the Women and Child Development (WCD) Ministry proposes to revise the same. Officials said the ministry will soon go to the Cabinet asking for at least 15 per cent hike for the programme.

In a meeting on Friday of state ministers, the issue was discussed with most of them complaining of price rise and its impact on the programme. “The ministers have been complaining that the current norms are inadequate,” WCD Minister Krishna Tirath said.

The scheme is meant to check incidence of malnutrition. In 2008,the ministry had revised nutritional and feeding norms for the supplementary nutrition programme.
