Authorities have relaxed curfew for 14 hours in Vizianagaram from Sunday. With no fresh violence in the last five to six days,we have decided to relax curfew for 14 hours from Sunday, said Vizianagaram District Collector Kantilal Dande.
Curfew was clamped in Vizianagaram on the night of October 5 in the wake of large-scale violence by anti-bifurcation agitators, following the Union Cabinets approval to create separate Telangana state out of Andhra Pradesh.
In view of the present situation, curfew may be lifted from Monday,Dande said, adding that will be decided after a review meeting with concerned officials.
DSP Kartikeya said though the curfew is lifted for 14 hours from Sunday,Section 144 of CrPc will continue to be in force during the period. He said around 500
people involved in violent activities were taken into custody.
Sources said everything was
under control with police and paramilitary personnel, including members of the Rapid Action Force, continuing to patrol the town.
