Even as the the CRPF denied involvement of its personnel in damaging houses and shops during street protests,a cellphone video uploaded on YouTube has reportedly belied the claims. Inspector General of CRPF V S Yadav, however, said that he has seen the video clip and theres no evidence about the involvement of his personnel.
I have seen the video but how can one say they are CRPF personnel and the video is of March 2013. It can be police personnel or BSF personnel. The video can be of 2008 or 2010, Yadav said. Yadav ruled out investigations into the video clip saying,Unless it is clear that these are CRPF personnel in the video, unless the locality is identified and the date of the video is clear, there is no reason to investigate it.
The J&K police said the video has been brought into the knowledge of higher authorities. The video clip shows security personnel throwing stones to break windows of houses, breaking doors and damaging signboards of shops. Those who have uploaded the video have identified the place as Nawab Bazar,a neighbourhood of Srinagar that has witnessed regular street protests since the hanging of Afzal Guru on February 9.
In the past month, the residents of downtown Srinagar have accused the CRPF personnel of ransacking houses,a charge the forces have denied.
