V-C appointments earn PMO ire

The hurriedly made appointment of 15 Vice-Chancellors to the new central universities just before the model code came into effect has not only rankled National Knowledge Commission (NKC) Chairman Sam Pitroda but also some other academics,who have challenged it in court. The final word of disapproval is learnt to have come straight from the PMO,demanding an explanation from the Arjun Singh-led HRD Ministry on the same.
