Valentine’s Day: Jilted lover commits suicide,parents too die

A teen committed suicide after being rejected by a girl on Valentine’s Day.

A 19-year-old committed suicide by setting himself on fire at his residence in Vapi after being rejected by a girl on Valentine’s Day,the police said on Tuesday. The parents of the Class XII student,who tried to save him,also succumbed to serious burn injuries in a Mumbai hospital late Monday night.

Friends of Sushant Parihar,a resident of Vrajbhumi Apartment at Muktinagar in Vapi,said he was in love with a girl who lived near his house. On Monday,the teenager proposed to her but she rejected him.

Heartbroken,Sushant is reported to have returned home with a can containing some inflammable substance and set himself on fire in his room.

Hearing his cries,his father Krupasindhu Parihar and mother Vishnupriya broke open his room’s door and tried to save him. Both suffered severe burn injuries.

Neighbours on hearing their cries took them to a local hospital where Sushant was declared dead on arrival. His parents were referred to a hospital in Mumbai but his mother died on the way. His father died in a private hospital in Mumbai.

Police said Krupasindhu worked as an engineer in a private company while his wife was a housewife. The family,hailing from Orissa,had been residing in Vapi for the past five years.

Sub Inspector I V Patel said,“We have contacted Krupasindhu’s eldest son who stays in Mumbai. After contacting the neighbours,we found that the family had cordial relations with everyone and Sushant was a good student. We have come to know that he had proposed to the girl and after her rejection,he had taken such a drastic step.”
