It was the first time since proclaiming the zone on November 23 that China said it sent planes there on the same day as foreign military flights.

The United States advised US carriers to comply with Chinas demand that it be told of any flights passing through its new maritime air defence zone over the East China Sea,an area where Beijing said it launched two fighter planes to investigate a dozen American and Japanese reconnaissance and military flights.

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement Friday that the US remained deeply concerned about Chinas declared air identification zone.
