The BJP on Tuesday betrayed nervousness over the Congresss attempt at wooing its alliance partner JD(U) by expediting work on revising the backward state criteria, with the party spokesperson saying that the Centre was playing the Bihar card for political reasons after the DMKs pullout.
The Manmohan Singh government is tottering and is on the verge of a total collapse. Whatever efforts it may make,I dont think it is going to survive for long. The UPA is possibly playing Bihar card for survival, BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said at a press conference here. The UPAs chair is under threat, that is why they are playing a new trick, Rudy said.
Rudys remarks hold significance in the wake of the fact that this is for the first time the BJP has formally suspected Congresss intention to woo Nitish Kumar away from the NDA fold in public. The BJP spokesperson, however, sought to claim that his supicion of Congress playing politics did not automatically imply suspicion towards JD(U)s intentions.
The Centre is making futile attempts for numerical majority. In Bihar, there is a strong BJP-JD(U) government. We are preparing for the Lok Sabha elections… Irrespective of what the Central government thinks,Bihar deserves (financial) support and it should not be based on politics. There is no reason to suspect…We will form the next government in New Delhi and Nitish Kumar will be with us, Rudy responded to queries whether his suspicion against the Congress also implied the BJPs suspicion towards the JD(U).
He,however, expressed displeasure over tagging Bihar as backward, saying that Bihar has been deprived and the state needed no charity but was demanding what it deserved.
