A minor girl,she was allegedly gangraped on January 22 in her village by four men. Now just days before she was to give her statement before the trial magistrate,her tongue has been chopped off by the kin of the main accused. The gangrape case is set to be heard on July 24.
The gruesome incident took place on Wednesday night. A case of attempt to murder has been registered in Jethwara police station of Pratapgarh district. The police have taken one person into custody.
The main accused in the gangrape case,Luvlesh,is in jail while three others are yet to be nabbed,the police said. The two relatives involved in hurting the 17-year-old girl were not named in the gangrape case.
Jethwara Station Officer Arvind Tiwari said Lalji,brother of Luvlesh,and Kundan,son of one of his aunts,had come to the victims house on Wednesday night. When the victim came out of the house to attend to natures call,the two pounced on her. Her father,Ram Asre,has lodged a complaint in which he has alleged that they first tried to kill his daughter. When they failed,they chopped off her tongue with a sharp-edged weapon, Tiwari said.
Though there was pressure on the victims family from the accused to withdraw the case,police sources said they have not received any complaint. One of the accused is in custody. The girl was supposed to record her statement before the magistrate on July 24, said Pratapgarh SP L R Kumar.
Chief Medical Officer of Pratapgarh,Vinod Kumar Pandey,said the chief medical superintendent of the district hospital has been told to form a panel of two doctors from Lucknow to assess the girls injury.
Prima facie,the report from the hospital said the girls tongue was cut, he said. Luvlesh along with three others had allegedly gangraped the girl after his proposal to marry her was turned down by the girls family over dowry.
