U’khand flashfloods: Final list puts number of missing at 4,083

UP has the largest number of missing people (1,142),followed by Uttarakhand (852).

Three months after flash floods and landslides devastated Uttarakhand,the state government has released the final list of 4,083 people — 2,293 men,1,367 women and 423 children — who could not be traced in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Uttar Pradesh has the largest number of missing people (1,142),followed by the home state Uttarakhand (852).

The list includes 92 Nepalese citizens as well. However,the list does not have information about missing persons from countries apart from Nepal.

“The foreign ministry is looking into the matter (of missing foreigners). We have received queries from US embassy regarding two missing NRIs,” an official said.

“We are in the process of issuing death certificates to the family members of the missing persons. The necessary formalities will be completed in two weeks,” said Bhaskaranand,Secretary (Disaster Management).

Government sources said all states have authenticated the final list.

The state-wise number of missing people are as follows: Madhya Pradesh with 541,Rajasthan 511,Delhi 198,Maharashtra 163,Gujarat 129,Haryana 111,Andhra Pradesh 86,Bihar 57,Jharkhand 40,West Bengal 36,Punjab 33,Chhattisgarh 27,Tamil Nadu and Karnataka 14 each,Chandigarh 4,Jammu and Kashmir 3,Kerala,Pondicherry and Assam 3,1 and 1,respectively.
