Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened to expel foreign ambassadors Saturday,blaming them for a vast corruption and bribery investigation mounting against people close to his government. Riot police,meanwhile,stood guard as hundreds protested against Erdogan’s government. Erdogan’s accusations come after two ministers’ sons were arrested,along with Suleyman Aslan,CEO of state-owned Halkbank. AP

Pak close to finishing 4th nuke reactor

Washington: Pakistan has nearly completed external construction of a fourth reactor building at the Khushab nuclear complex that produces plutonium for the country’s nuclear weapons programme,according to a US thinktank. The report further said Pakistan is “believed to have depended on illicit procurements” for the four reactors. PTI

Thai opposition party to boycott general poll

BAngkok: Thailand’[s main opposition Democrat Party Saturday said it would boycott February’s general election. Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said the decision was made to ensure that the government “represents the people once again”. AP

NASA astronauts begin spacewalking repairs

CAPE CANAVERAL: Astronauts removed an old space station pump Saturday,sailing through the first of a series of urgent repair spacewalks to revive a crippled cooling line. The two Americans on the crew,Rick Mastracchio and Michael Hopkins,successfully pulled out the ammonia pump with a bad valve — well ahead of schedule. AP
