Trout Fish Feed Mill shipped to J-K from Holland,Ops by June

Jammu and Kashmir will have the latest Trout Fish Feed Mill (TFFM) by June this year as the mill,which has been shipped from Holland,is undergoing installation process.

“This is first state of art technology based Trout Fish Feed Mill (TFFM) not only in J-K but in the country. It would fully operational by first week of June this year in the state”,Director Fisheries,Showkat Ali,said.

Trout Feed Mill has been shipped from Holland recently and has been assembled and grouted to the foundation by the engineers and suppliers in Manasbal belt in the outskirts of Srinagar summer capital city.

“The civil work is going on at the site. After its completion trial runs would be carried out by April 25 by the foreign experts who will arrive here to train the people”,Ali said.

The coming up of Rs 10 crore Manasbal Trout Feed Mill would be to boost trout production in the state and ensure availability of feed to the government and private fish farms,he said.

The plant will be equipped with latest machinery procured from Holland for which the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) has provided 90 per cent funds.

The state Trading Corporation,Government of India (GoI) invited global tenders for supply of fee mill and process was completed last year and tendered granted to Holland based company.

“This will also give to trout farming in the Asia”,Director said adding that it will go in long way to ensure multi-fold increase in Trout fish farming in the state.

The trout fish production last financial year touched an all time high of 195 tonnes,up by about 20 per cent than 2009-10 when trout fish production was recorded at 165 tonnes.

The department generated a revenue to Rs 165 lakh from the sale of trout fish and seeds. It has also promoted 122 such units during 2010-11,93 more than 29 such units promoted in 2009-10.

As many as 189 trout ponds and 752 carp ponds are working in the state.

The state government has submitted a Rs 6.80 crore project for development of trout fisheries in the temperate climate zone of the State to the Marine Products Export Development Authority of India for funding.
