Two earthquakes, epicentred in the Hindukush region of Afghanistan,Thursday shook some parts of north India, including Kashmir. No loss of life or property was reported.
The first tremor was felt for a few moments at 7.31 pm and the second at 8.15 pm in most parts of Kashmir, sending people out of their homes and bringing back memories of the monstrous October 2005 earthquake that had left a trail of death and destruction in the state. Reports from Punjab said the quake was barely felt in the state but people in some parts of Delhi said they felt the tremors around 7:30 pm
The Indian Meteorological Department said the first quake measured 6.3 on the Richter scale and the second 5.1.
Kashmir falls in the highly earthquake-prone Seismic Zone V. It was struck by a 7.4 magnitude earthquake on October 8,2005,which flattened many parts on both sides of the Line of Control.
Reports from Islamabad said the quakes jolted parts of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provinces. There were no reports of casualties or damage to property.
