Haryana Forest Minister Capt Ajay Singh Yadav on Tuesday ordered a departmental inquiry into the killing of two panthers in Karnal and Jind districts.
Taking a serious view of the two incidents,which occurred within a month,Yadav directed the Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary,Forest,Keshni Anand Arora,to submit a detailed inquiry report at the earliest. Stringent action will be taken against those found guilty,he said. Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Parvez Ahmad and Conservator of Forest Satya Bhan have been sent to the spot to file a fact-finding report.
The inquiry will have to address critical questions regarding the issue. For instance,why werent tranquiliser guns used? Why no permission was taken from the PCCF before killing the panther in Karnal? Permission had been sought and granted for killing a panther in Jind earlier this month.
The statement issued by the DFO,Karnal,regarding the tranquiliser gun differed from that of Parvez Ahmad. While DFO Navdeep Hooda said a tranquiliser gun was available in Kurukshetra,but there was no time to fetch it,Ahmad said the gun was kept in the divisional headquarters,Rohtak,from where it was not possible to bring it to the spot. With regard to why permission was not sought from him before killing the panther,Ahmad said he was out of station and could not be contacted.
