A fortnight after six Central Industrial Security Force personnel were killed in an ambush near the National Mineral Development Corporation mines in Kirandul district of Chhattisgarh, the security agencies have found evidence of top Naxal leader Ganesh V Ks movement around the mines. An alert was sounded near the NMDC mines on Wednesday and security beefed up.
Ganesh is reportedly the mastermind of the 2010 massacre in Dantewada district where 76 Central Reserve Police Force personnel were killed in a Naxal attack.
According to specific intelligence inputs, the movement of 35-40 Naxals was spotted near Hiroli village, few kilometres away from the mines. A senior official said that other agencies were informed and they have launched a combing operation in the area.
There was a specific information about the movement of two groups of Naxals. One of them was headed by Ganesh. He was found to be moving near Bailadilla area. We have stepped up the security to avert any planned strike, said a senior security official. Ganesh is said to be the commander of the Naxals in the Dantewada region and trains the members of Peoples Liberation Guerrilla Army.
On May 14,six CISF personnel were killed when Naxals attacked their jeep while they were returning from a routine patrolling duty. After this intelligence input the security matrix was redrawn and each and every post near the mines had been further intensified, said the official.
