Thousands of protesters calling for the return to power of Egypt’s ousted Islamist president demonstrated in Cairo Friday as the military warned it will crack down on any violence,underlining the point with a show of force by fighter jets flying over the capital.
Waving Egyptian flags and holding up pictures of Morsi,protesters chanted slogans against army chief Abdel-Fatah el-Sissi. El-Sissi is a traitor,Morsi is our president.
Protesters in Cairo converged in front of a mosque in eastern Cairo,where thousands have been holding a sit-in since Morsi was removed. Protesters marched through Sinai Peninsulas main city of el-Arish. The military dropped flyers urging people to protect their land and Sinai from terrorists. Northern Sinai has been the scene of attacks by Islamist militants against Egyptian security forces and police.
Morsi supporters also took to streets in Alexandria and several Nile Delta cities. About 60 people have been killed in the violence since his ouster.
