Naidu on tour

Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu has not clearly spelt out his stand on statehood for Telangana, hence his tour of the region is being keenly watched. In spite of tremendous pressure,Naidu has avoided announcing support for the demand, annoying leaders from Telangana within the TDP. His Raithu Poru Bata to highlight farmers’ problems has, however, been a hit among farmers hit by crop failure in the region, though he faced protests from Telangana Rashtra Samiti at a few places in Nizamabad. The TDP’s support base has eroded in the region ever since the Telangana movement started two years ago. Naidu is taking pains to tell people during his tour that he has never spoken out against Telangana or opposed the idea of a separate state.

Chamber of its own

Taking the statehood movement a step ahead, the business community of Telangana this week launched a Telangana Chamber of Commerce and Industry. A few months ago,the Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce was launched in Hyderabad. The new chamber, recognised by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and the state government, says it is open to admitting businessmen from other parts of the state. It will publish a comprehensive report on the business, trade and development history of the region. Many members of the Telangana Chamber, whose president is M Venkateshwaralu, are also members of AP Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Birthplace

The Birthplace,a birthing facility,is coming up in Hyderabad with the argument that pregnant women are not sick and so need not go to a hospital. Set up by Birthplace Healthcare Pvt Ltd,it is the brainchild of Tarun Siripurapu. “Often,a woman has given birth by the time her husband or family members complete the hospital admission process. That is not fair… The warm and comfortable environment at Birthplace will make it a happy and memorable occasion for the mother and her family,” he says. Prenatal and postnatal services on offer include yoga, exercises, nutrition advice and counselling. Bithplace will start operations in March 2012.

Adopt a zoo animal

for those keen to help conserve wildlife, here is one way to go about it. The Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad has floated a scheme that enables people to adopt lions, tigers, leopards, bears, hyenas, wolves, elephants, chimpanzees, crocodiles, and rare birds, anything for a fee. Donors can also claim IT exemption under this scheme, which allows adoption for a duration between six months and a year. One can adopt a lion or a tiger for Rs 1 lakh for a year,an elephant or a chimpanzee for Rs 50,000 and a crocodile for Rs 10,000. The names of the donors will be displayed at the enclosure of the animal they have adopted.
