Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday sent out a loud and clear message to his party high command, attacking the Congress Working Committee for going ahead with the Telangana decision, and questioning the wisdom of Congress leaders when Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, after careful consideration, felt that the state should remain united for maximum benefits.
The chief minister also took a dig at AICC general secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh Digvijaya Singh for advising him to behave like a chief minister.
He said,Without properly thinking of the consequences of dividing this state, when great leaders like Nehru and Indira Gandhi thought it was vital and in the best interests of all regions to keep it united, how can this decision be taken forward?
I never thought that a time would come when I have to choose between my party Congress and my state. I would not wish such a quandary to even my worst enemy. But if I,as CM of this state, allow this happen, future generations of Telugu people wont forgive me, he said. As CM of this state,I have a responsibility and I have to answer them. Even when I was just an MLA,or when my father was an MLA,I stood for united state and today I stand for united state. There is no change in my stance.
The CWC has taken this political decision but as chief minister of this state I have a responsibility to this state and its people not to allow this mistake to be carried forward, he said at a media conference as he went hammer and tongs after his own party.
The CWC made a big mistake by announcing a decision on Telangana without discussion on some of the most important things like water-sharing,irrigation,status of government employees, and other things, he said.
The chief minister attacked Digvijaya Singh for reminding that he was the chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh and should behave like one. When Digvijaya Singh tried to remind me that I am CM of united Andhra and I should behave like one,I wanted to remind him that yes,I am CM of united Andhra, and I would like to remain one,so let the state remain united. In fact,I am more inspired to join the united Andhra agitation to keep the state united, every time Digvijaya says something about me.
Attacking the opposition parties,he said,I am not like TDPs N Chandrababu Naidu or YSRCPs Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy who are gunning for the CM post. Its been 58 days now since the Seemandhra agitation started to keep the state united, but still I have no clarity on Naidus stand. Sometimes he supports Telangana, sometimes he talks of united state. I am also not like Jagan Mohan Reddy who is fighting for a political position. I know that I have no future out of Congress. But I will fight for Telugu people, even if it means losing my position as CM.
