Tea-Time

THINK of a tea party and either it’s the Mad Hatter’s elaborate table setting in Lewis Caroll’s Alice in Wonderland that comes to mind or a group of English ladies sipping tea and taking gentle bites of quiche.

THINK of a tea party and either it’s the Mad Hatter’s elaborate table setting in Lewis Caroll’s Alice in Wonderland that comes to mind or a group of English ladies sipping tea and taking gentle bites of quiche. It’s the latter that chef Anubhav Sawhney has in mind for Chandigarh.

The Delhi-based chef — who runs an exclusive gourmand service specialising in live cooking sessions, menu consultations and personal chef service — is all set to host a “Victorian Tea Party” on March 30 in the city.

Her offbeat culinary classes in Thai and Lebanese cuisines are quite popular in Chandigarh. With spiced chocolate macarons, rose pistachio tartlets, biscotti, scones served with strawberry jam and cream, cucumber and dill sandwiches, mini quiche — it’s a delectable line-up in store.

For the uninitiated,a Victorian Tea Party,as the name suggests, derives its origin from England where tea-drinking was an early evening ritual. “The thought of hosting a tea party came to me after I visited an English Tea Room in New York during my last visit to the US. I was very intrigued by the whole ritual of serving tea with these delectable goodies, which I am going to demonstrate at the session,” explains Sawhney, adding,“Tea time rituals are also ways to socialise and I wanted to couple it with a fun cooking session that was theme-based.”
