Andhra Pradesh politics witnessed another son-rise on Monday with Nara Lokesh, son of Telugu Desam Party president Nara Chandrababu Naidu, being formally inducted into the party. He was introduced into the party at TDPs two-day gathering Mahanadu at Gandipet on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Lokesh will head the TDPs Youth Wing.
For the first time,Lokesh,33,shared the dais with Naidu senior and other leaders at a significant party gathering, and was welcomed by TDP activists.
Lokesh took the centrestage after NTR Junior, who was widely expected to be given a key role in the party in the run up to elections next year, weaned himself away to concentrate on his acting career. The tussle between Lokesh, supported Naidu, and NTR Junior, supported by his father N Balakrishna who is a senior party member, had witnessed some ugly scenes and threatened to split the TDP.
However, with NTR Junior choosing to concentrate on movies, the stage was set for Lokesh to enter politics.
Lokesh, presently executive director of Heritage Foods Limited owned by his family,is waiting for his wife Brahmani to complete her MBA and take over his position in the company so that he can resign and concentrate on politics.
Lokesh was till now considered the backroom boy, handling his fathers political meetings, but came to the limelight after he planned and organised Chandrababus 2,800-long padayatra that started last October and ended in the first week of May.
Lokesh joined his father in the walkathon at several places. At the two-day Mahanadu meeting on May 27 and 28,Lokesh may be given a roadmap by senior leaders on how to revive and mobilise workers at the grassroots level and prepare for next elections.
Lokesh is planning to be more visible now and is likely to accompany Chandrababu to several places when he hits the road again in July in a specially designed bus to hold public meetings in several crucial constituencies across Rayalaseema region and some coastal districts.
Meanwhile,Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is also eyeing the 2014 elections to come to power, completed one year in jail in the alleged disproportionate assets case.
He was arrested by the CBI last May 27. YSR Congress Party activists held demonstrations outside Chanchalguda Jail where he is lodged.
